C – H ̄ O H - bonded complexes : How does basis set superposition error change their potential - energy surfaces ?

چکیده
Geometries, vibrational frequencies, and interaction energies of the CNH ̄O3 and HCCH ̄O3 complexes are calculated in a counterpoise-corrected ~CP-corrected! potential-energy surface ~PES! that corrects for the basis set superposition error ~BSSE!. Ab initio calculations are performed at the Hartree–Fock ~HF! and second-order Mo”ller–Plesset ~MP2! levels, using the 6-31G(d ,p) and D9511(d ,p) basis sets. Interaction energies are presented including corrections for zero-point vibrational energy ~ZPVE! and thermal correction to enthalpy at 298 K. The CP-corrected and conventional PES are compared; the uncorrected PES obtained using the larger basis set including diffuse functions exhibits a double well shape, whereas use of the 6-31G(d ,p) basis set leads to a flat single-well profile. The CP-corrected PES has always a multiple-well shape. In particular, it is shown that the CP-corrected PES using the smaller basis set is qualitatively analogous to that obtained with the larger basis sets, so the CP method becomes useful to correctly describe large systems, where the use of small basis sets may be necessary. © 2000 American Institute of Physics. @S0021-9606~00!30937-0#

How does basis set superposition error change the potential surfaces for hydrogen - bonded dimers ?
We describe a simple method to automate the geometric optimization of molecular orbital calculations of supermolecules on potential surfaces that are corrected for basis set superposition error using the counterpoise ~CP! method. This method is applied to the H-bonding complexes HF/HCN, HF/H2O, and HCCH/H2O using the 6-31G~d,p! and D9511~d,p! basis sets at both the Hartree–Fock and second-order...
متن کاملAb initio study of the second virial coefficient protein — protein on the basis of intermolecular potential energy surface
Intermolecular potential energy surface (IPS) for protein — protein has been examined using RHF, DFT-B3LYPand MP2 levels of theory with 6-31G, 6-31G* basis sets. A number of basis sets were used in order to evaluatethe basis set effects, at all three levels of theory, basis sets has significant effects on the calculated potentialenergy curves (including position, depth and width of the potentia...
متن کاملExplicitly correlated intermolecular distances and interaction energies of hydrogen bonded complexes.
We have optimized the lowest energy structures and calculated interaction energies for the H(2)O-H(2)O, H(2)O-H(2)S, H(2)O-NH(3), and H(2)O-PH(3) dimers with the recently developed explicitly correlated CCSD(T)-F12 methods and the associated VXZ-F12 (where X = D,T,Q) basis sets. For a given cardinal number, we find that the results obtained with the CCSD(T)-F12 methods are much closer to the CC...

متن کاملH2XP:OH2 Complexes: Hydrogen vs. Pnicogen Bonds
A search of the Cambridge Structural Database (CSD) was carried out for phosphine-water and arsine-water complexes in which water is either the proton donor in hydrogen-bonded complexes, or the electron-pair donor in pnicogen-bonded complexes. The range of experimental P-O distances in the phosphine complexes is consistent with the results of ab initio MP2/aug’-cc-pVTZ calculations carried out ...
